8 Natural Ways to Whiten Teeth at Home

Many individuals desire to have a bright, white smile without any inhibitions. Apart from the obvious aesthetic benefit, having white teeth can improve self-esteem and oral hygiene and promote overall dental health. Professional teeth whitening is a safe and affordable option that involves the use of chemicals and has no side effects. However, if you prefer to avoid professional services, try teeth whitening at home with products available in your kitchen, pantry, or local supermarket.

1. Baking soda
Baking soda is a well-known and effective remedy for teeth whitening. It is readily available in the kitchen in most households. To use this remedy, take a small amount of baking soda in your palm, dip your toothbrush into it, and squeeze some toothpaste over it. Brush your teeth slowly, covering all areas of the mouth. Rinse your mouth thoroughly to remove any remaining baking soda. For best results, do this before bedtime at night.

2. Charred bread
Char a piece of bread in the oven or on a stove until it is burnt and black. Rub the charred bread on your teeth for three to four minutes and leave it for another five or longer. Wash it with normal water, and you will see that your teeth are white and shining.

Alternatively, you can powder the charred bread, mix it with either a little toothpaste or some honey, and brush your teeth for three to five minutes. Repeat twice and then do it only when necessary, not as a regular practice.

3. Banana peel
Do not throw away the banana peel after eating it. Rub it against your teeth for about three minutes and leave it for two to ten minutes. Brush your teeth and rinse them well to see them shining.

4. Oil pulling with coconut or black sesame oil
Take a tablespoon of pure and organic coconut or black sesame oil and swish it in your mouth for about five minutes or until it feels light. Spit it out, gargle with plain water, avoid eating anything for thirty minutes, and then brush your teeth. Do it first thing in the morning before brushing or having your first coffee.

5. Lemon peel
Rub lemon peel in your teeth, and the acid in the peel helps to whiten them.

6. Leaves
Bay leaf powder and dry basil leaf powder are very effective in teeth whitening. You can use them as standalone agents or mix them with others like coconut oil or fruit peels. Use it once a week for lasting impact.

7. Orange peel and zest
Another effective home remedy for white teeth is using dry peels of orange. Make it into a powder or use fresh orange zest, rub it in your teeth, leave it for about ten minutes, and brush it with your regular toothpaste. Mix it with bay leaf powder, brush it gently, and rinse with water.

8. Guava leaves
Guava leaves have multiple oral hygiene benefits, protecting our gums against disease and infection. Wash and chew five guava leaves for about five minutes without swallowing them – allowing the water to reach all areas of your teeth. Spit the juice and leaves and rinse your mouth with clean water.
